The Duolingo English Test assesses all levels of English proficiency and can be used for both academic and professional purposes. It is recognized by a growing number of universities, employers, and institutions worldwide.
The test is taken online, from the comfort of your home or any quiet space with a stable internet connection. To take the exam, you need a valid ID, a computer with a camera, speakers, and a microphone. After registering on the official website, you install the Duolingo application, which verifies your video and audio setup before the test begins.-
The exam consists of three parts:
- Introduction (5 minutes)
Instructions and test rules
- Adaptive test (45 minutes)
The difficulty of questions adjusts based on your performance
- Video interview (10 minutes)
Assessment of spoken communication
All sections are completed consecutively, without breaks. The total test duration is approximately 60 minutes.
Results are scored on a scale from 10 to 160. Each competency is evaluated separately, and the final score represents an average across four areas:
- Literacy (reading and writing)
- Comprehension (listening and reading)
- Conversation (listening and speaking)
- Production (written and spoken expression)
In addition to the numerical score, you will receive a descriptive evaluation of your proficiency level.
For easier comparison, Duolingo results can be aligned with other international exams and the CEFR scale.
